A one-third size crucified skeleton nailed to an oak cross. The wood was reclaimed from part of an old crucifix in a converted chapel.
The crucifixion is a powerful symbol in Western art and culture. Our skeleton sculpture reflects the universal themes of suffering, redemption and sacrifice, but there is no cloak of humanity to disguise the pain of this agonizing death. That said when you are a skeleton you do always seem to be smiling.
