Medieval Gothic Sword – Oakeshott Type XIII – typically this style of sword was in use from the 12th to the 14th Century.
The grip is English ash, with a wrap & stitch calf skin. The guard and pommel are forged in steel with a blackened, patinated finish. The pommel tapers from base to tip as is often seen on originals. The guard width is 19.5cm (7 11/16″) with the grip length being 14cm (5 1/2″). Blade steel is 80CrV2, hardened and tempered to 55 to 56RC. This sword is 3lbs and 6oz (1.55kg).
We are making a few blades in this style to offer for sale from stock in 2026. These swords can now be reserved with a waiting time of around 4 to 6 months. As they have not yet been finished we can customise the fittings and binding style – please contact us if you would like to discuss a commission.
