We made the first of these swords as a special commission for Ewart Oakeshott. He believed it to be ‘the very finest medieval sword in existence’ (p37 Records of the Medieval Sword). It is a copy of the A.459, its catalogue number, in The Wallace Collection.
This is an excellent example of a lightly aged medieval sword. It has a hollow ground blade, fullered for the full length of the blade. As Ewart Oakeshott wrote, ‘the shape of the blade and its perfect setting in the simple hilt whose proportions are exactly and aesthetically right’. (p37 Records of the Medieval Sword) It is a pre-owned sword.
